You can conquer body odor. Here's how.

You can conquer body odor. Here's how.

I’ve personally been on a search for the perfect deodorant my entire adult life. Ever since puberty I’ve felt like no deodorant really did the job. I was always self-conscious about the way my armpits smelled because it seemed like no matter which clinical strength, super heavy-duty deodorant I used, it would fail by midday.

When I’m cutting hair, my armpits are near someone’s face ALL DAY LONG. So, you can imagine why this has been a big problem for me.

I’m sure you’re having this problem too because your trusty deodorant is the reason this is happening. I’ll tell you how to conquer B.O. in the last half of this blog, but first, let's talk about why you need to throw your generic deodorant away.

Deodorant vs. Antiperspirant

What most people are actually using is antiperspirant. That’s what most store-bought, generic “deodorants” actually are. Deodorant deals directly with odor whereas antiperspirant only blocks sweat.

Why is antiperspirant bad news?

For starters, the aluminum** alone

stains your T-shirts,

makes B.O. worse,

causes irritation,

and blocks sweat.

Sweating is good for you! Sweat does two main things: regulate body temperature and release toxins and waste. When a chemical-ridden antiperspirant blocks the pores to keep you from sweating, you are cutting off these important bodily functions.

This leads to even more B.O. because the good bacteria need your sweat to survive and in its absence, the bacteria that cause B.O. start to thrive. That’s why antiperspirants make B.O. worse, because when the odor-causing bacteria aren’t dealt with, your pits get stinky FAST.

By the way, those good bacteria serve a huge role by helping to keep pathogens from entering the body.

** Myth buster: People often claim that Aluminum in deodorants is linked to cancer and other diseases like Alzheimer's, but that’s not true. The studies actually show that while yes, aluminum is toxic, there’s no way you’re absorbing enough of it through antiperspirants to cause any of the diseases people claim are linked to it. Still, making B.O. worse, altering your armpit flora, and staining your t-shirts are great reasons to throw it out.

How to conquer B.O, T-shirt stains, and irritation for good

All natural deodorant

You need to be using a natural deodorant if that isn't abundantly clear yet.

I tried so many natural deodorants when I started learning about this but I had a big problem:

they simply didn’t work.

I had bad reactions to some of them and I would still cut through the deodorant, making my B.O. unbearable by 2 or 3 pm every day. It was embarrassing and I was constantly reapplying to keep the smell down.

Lucas, our main brewmaster at the shop was having this problem and decided he had had enough. He told me he wanted to start experimenting with making a deodorant. I was hesitant because of my experiences with natural deodorants but we gave the project a green light.

There were quite a few trials that didn’t work at all, but then he came up with a recipe that changed my life.

I tried our new experimental deodorant for the first time and didn’t realize until the next day that I hadn’t had B.O. or excessive sweating for over 24 hours. Since that day, I’ve had:

  • No Body Odor for 24 hours
  • Less sweating because of its moisture-wicking effect
  • Zero t-shirt stains
  • Zero irritation

We sent samples out to a few guinea pigs (friends, not animals) and they all had the same results. As a matter of fact, once they ran out of their samples, we had to make more samples because they refused to go back to their old deodorants.

We want you to try it too!

Our new, all-natural deodorant uses arrowroot powder and kaolin clay to wick away moisture while baking soda and essential oils work to kill the odor-causing bacteria.

Some people have said they don’t like using deodorants with baking soda because it can cause irritation. Actually, baking soda causes irritation in high quantities which is why we’ve balanced it with essential oils to eliminate the possibility of irritation entirely. So, if that’s you, give this one a shot! Everyone who’s tried it has had zero irritation and their B.O. stays in check all day long.

It is available in two scents, Botanica and Woodshop. Both are designed to be unisex.

Woodshop smells exactly how you would hope. Sharp notes of fir needles are coupled with deep notes of cedar and frankincense to give you a scent that resembles fresh-cut lumber. (My personal favorite)

Botanica has a main note of lavender, paired with the fresh, clean scent of mint.

Pick up a stick of this all-natural deodorant on 10/2 and say goodbye to body odor, irritation, t-shirt stains, and excessive sweating.

READ THIS BEFORE YOU MAKE A SWITCH

It’s best to go a day or two with no deodorant before switching to natural deodorant since it can be surprising to your body if you were using an antiperspirant before. If you have heavy B.O., I’d suggest wearing an undershirt for a couple of days or plan your detox for a weekend when you have no plans.

Wash thoroughly and exfoliate with a hand towel or loofah during the detox period to make sure your pits get a good reset.

When you use our deodorant, hold it to the skin for 5 to 10 seconds to let it warm up and that will make the application much smoother.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
