What is it?

The Matte Clay Paste was released in May 2021 as our first water-based clay hair styling products. It’s easy to wash out with one shampoo, yet it holds all day long. It’s easy to restyle and has a medium-firm hold depending on how much you use.

Most common hair products are made with alcohol, silicones, and parabens that damage your hair and scalp. We use all natural, ethically sourced ingredients to make sure your hair and scalp are healthier after using our products than before.

The scent is Redwood, a light and balanced natural fragrance. It’s made from essential oils with notes of woodsy, floral, herbal, and citrus scents. As with all of our products, this one is vegan friendly because it’s made from all natural, plant based ingredients. It’s cruelty free and handmade in the Carolinas.

One thing people don’t often know about our products is that they contain Tea Tree oil which can help with scalp fungus and a long list of common ailments.

Primary Use

Our matte clay paste is designed to be used for high texture, matte finish hairstyles. A lot of looks that have gained popularity in recent years are textured and messy with a matte finish or low shine. The goal is an effortless hairstyle that still has an edge to which makes it look like you meant to have your hair look this way rather than it being bed head. This look passes as professional but doesn’t look overdone and polished.

How To Use our All Natural Matte Clay Paste

  • Get a good haircut. You need to visit a good barber or hair stylist and get the haircut you want. If you don’t have a good foundation to work with, styling will be a hassle and you won’t get the perfectly messy, textured hairstyle you want.

  • Scoop a finger tip amount & add water. A little bit of matte clay paste goes a LONG WAY. When using this product, you want to add water to your palm to dilute it slightly to help it spread easily. You can also spray a bit of our Texture Sea Salt Spray into your palm to add an extra bit of grit to the product.

  • Apply to slightly damp hair. Work the product through damp hair and make sure you get an even spread.

  • Use a blow dryer to shape your hair. Hair stays wherever it drys. If you blow dry your hair with a small amount of product in it, you protect your hair from the heat and give it a boost to hold it’s shape. This is the MOST important step of the process. Blow drying your hair is the best way to get the style where you want it.

  • Apply final product. Once your hair is dry and shaped the way you want, add another small amount of matte clay paste to your hair. In this step, you could either dilute it with water or add it straight in. You may find that the product is too grippy to apply directly to dry hair, in which case you would want to dilute it.

  • Pinch and twist locks of hair together to get the perfect piecy, textured look. If you want lots of texture, avoid combing or brushing your hair.

Secondary uses

Some of our clients in barbershops use our all natural matte clay paste daily to achieve a smooth, combed look even though they don’t want to see a bunch of texture. They mainly want the matte finish. They also want a cruelty free product that’s made in the USA that won’t damage their hair.

Cocktailing Products

A great hair styling product to use before you blow dry is our Texture Cream or our Texture Salt Spray. Both will work as activating pre-stylers and will aid the texture/hold of the look. After you’ve applied the matte clay paste, you can add our Styling Powder to give it that extra matte finish and refined texture.
